Nine Juniors to Watch Closely [Not Ranked]:
QB Nate Longshore ~ California --- This 6' 5", 230 pound gunslinger has a ton of offensive weapons around him and plays for a head coach (Jeff Tedford) that has tutored several first round quarterbacks. Definitely one of the more gifted quarterbacks in the junior class.
QB Rudy Carpenter ~ Arizona State -- Not real big (6' 2", 199) and did not have a great sophomore season in '06, but we know N.F.L. teams like his accuracy and ability to throw tight spirals. Also possesses great leadership skills, reminiscent of Jake Plummer, during his days at A.S.U.
RB Jonathan Stewart ~ Oregon -- Full sized back (5' 11", 245), who was very highly regarded coming out of high school. Has the potential to do great things this season, as he possesses the speed of a tailback and the power and balance of an elite fullback. Ran for 981 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.
WR DeSean Jackson ~ California --- Not the biggest receiver in the Pac-10 (6', 166), but he's extremely quick and explosive as a receiver and punt returner. Jackson is considered an excellent pro prospect and has hinted to the fact he may forego his final season of eligibility in order to jump to the N.F.L.
WR Jaison Williams ~ Oregon -- One of the bigger wide outs in college football at 6' 5' and 235 pounds. Put up monster numbers as a sophomore in '06 (984 yards & 6 TD's), despite the fact that the Ducks quarterbacks -- Dennis Dixon and Brady Leaf -- struggled to play consistently most of the season.
TE Logan Paulson ~ U.C.L.A. -- Very athletic 6' 5", 245 pounder, who teams with fellow junior Ryan Moya to give the Bruins a great one-two punch at tight end. Paulson was also a soccer and track star going through the high school ranks, so you know he has speed and stamina for a big fellow.
OG Jeremy Perry ~ Oregon State -- The Beavers will be breaking in a new quarterback this season (Sean Canfield), but a potentially great offensive line, led by the powerful 6' 2", 323 pound Perry, should help ease the transition. Perry, a native of Hau’ula, Hawaii', was the 2005 Pac-10 co-Freshman of the Year.
LB Rey Maualuga ~ Southern California -- Very athletic and tough 6' 3", 250 pounder, who is sometimes compared to former Trojans' great Junior Seau. Maualuga plays with great intensity and enthusiasm on the field. But controlling his temper off the field, however, is something Rey needs to work on. Has recorded 115 tackles in just 2 seasons at U.S.C.
LB Brian Cushing ~ Southern California -- This very versatile 6' 4", 245 pounder from the state of New Jersey has the size and athletic skills to lineup at any of the three linebacker spots and the power and edge rushing skills to excel at defensive end in a 4-3 defense. Will sort of remind fans of former Ohio State star Bobby Carpenter, who is now with the Dallas Cowboys.
DeSean Jackson, WR, Cal-Berkeley
